Discover Our Scagliola School
Visits to the Laboratory, Collection and Workshop
The tour includes a demonstration of the production steps, a history of our history, and the origins of the ancient scagliola technique, starting with the antique artifacts in our collection. A workshop will also include a hands-on workshop where we'll prepare one of the most unusual steps in the process: the colored marble-like mixtures. You can then take home the small tile or fragment of marbled scagliola you created, even if it's not fully finished. A coffee break is included.

Workshop "La Scagliola"
The workshop consists of seeing and then trying together one of the many phases of the scagliola production process, the phase of the colored marbled mixtures.
By combining selenite powder (alabaster gypsum) with natural pigments and glues, we will try to reconstruct the different shades of color and veining of a marble or breccia.
We will use our hands to mix and knead the materials so that, using a rather unique technique, we can reconstruct the "Artificial Boulder." Inside, after cuts that will open and split it into multiple sections, it will reveal the complex range of colors and movements characteristic of rocks found in nature.
At the end, each participant will still be able to take home one of these tiles/fragments which they can finish, if they wish, only in the following days given the long drying times.
